So has anyone used InstallFree and if so what do they think?

I have heard good things. In fact, a former co-worker of mine Jeanne Morain is over there now. I hear momentum and enterprise appetite for their solution is going very well, great management team, smart folks. Have NOT seen it out in the WILD ... yet :)

T-Rex - thanks for the invite to the group. Chris for more information on InstallFree - check out our website - www.installfree.com.

Although my opinion is interesting it is not as relevant as our customers and partners. A few things that may be useful for this group:

1) BMC Cloud Compliance panel - Global Data Systems, Infinite Group (2 InstallFree customers), IT Process Institute and BMC - http://072209-cloudcompliancevirtualindustrypanel.accessbmc.com/register.aspx?intcmp=home1_nc_cloudpanel&attr=webinar

2) Customer Wins/Case Studies - I will forward the Q to a couple of customers so they can hopefully sign up and provide more objective details around their deployments etc "in the wild" - :-).

I am currently evaluating VMWare's ThinApp right now and would like to know how it InstallFree compares to it in price and features.

Jeanne, I talked to a sales rep a couple times (Bob), however my company seems content to leave users as local admins, have 3 versions of java installed, and send us (client support) around putting out fires, rebuilding PC's and support some programs build for Windows 95/98 *sigh* but I can dream.

Also I would love to hear what customers have to say.

Rod, I also got a little bit into ThinApp. From my experience, the video's on InstallFree's site and my talk with the sales rep, I highly recommend looking into InstallFree.

I met with David Karofsky, InstallFree's Marketing head, just today. My primary take was "wow" to how easy they made it all look for customers to use the product. And with my background they weren't going to slide a crappy demo past me - they have some good stuff in there.

They got a late start in this business, well after Microsoft, Citrix, ThinStall (this was just around the time of their acquisistion), and Symantec had their pieces in place. Seems like an odd time to start out, but starting late meant they could take a fresh approach.

Without having run the product myself, I can say it would be worth looking at if your company can handle a small vendor, especially so if you have problems with the other guys for one reason or another. There is a ~30 minute video with David walking through the product up on Doug Browns site (www.dabcc.com) if you want a quick look.

As to the question on compairing with ThinApp... Both are "clientless", but InstallFree has an easy central deployment option. Also see Ruben's comparison of all the vendors at http://www.virtuall.nl/view-document-details/virtualization-migration-solutions-overview-and-feature-compare-matrix
