I'm happy to share with the VDI community that Daniel Beveridge recently joined VMware in the Office of the CTO, focusing on VDI, reporting to Scott Davis.
For those that might not know, I recruited Daniel to Foedus back in 2004. I first met Daniel when he was the IT Director at a mortgage company. I was introduced to him through a VMware SE, who was looking to help Daniel find a competent VMware architect troubleshoot some performance issues. When I arrived at his office, I discovered an architect that designed a solution for production use that I wouldn't see again at least for two more years. Suffice to say, Daniel was ahead of his time, by years. And that is one thing that anyone who has spoken with Daniel, or who has attended any of his VMworld session knows--Daniel isn't thinking about the problems of today, he's thinking about the significant issues down the road that few others can even see, let alone address. And that's why I'm excited about working with Daniel again.
In his role, Daniel is responsible for helping to set the direction of the VMware desktop strategy, and for bringing his creative brand of complex problem solving to VMware's capable engineering teams. One of Daniel's focus areas, at least initially, is on storage IOPS optimization, which incidentally isn't a new line of thinking for him.
I expect that we'll be hearing from Daniel on the blog and the web after a short public communication hiatus. Daniel is already doing a vulcan mind meld with VMware's key engineers and strategists, and who knows what deep thoughts will emerge? I'm sure even Daniel is curious to know.
Welcome to VMware, Daniel!
